Credential File Information for Nursing Majors

The word “credentials” is used often in the field of nursing to describe a number of different documents that are used to denote official evaluations and/or proficiencies (attaining, surpassing standards). You may find that some employers will request a copy of your credentials and others will not. As a result, it would be a good idea to make sure that you have your information in order in case you receive such a request.

A regularly used meaning of credentials is used by some healthcare employers to describe a hard copy file of documents that provides candidate a certain credibility with employers. The Career Center is where your official credential file is maintained.

To set up a credential file at the Career Center by dropping off or mailing us paper copies of:

  • Your resume;
  • Clinical/externship evaluations (from supervisor and clinical advisor);
  • One to three recommendation letters (on the writer's letterhead or forms we can provide for you);
  • Certificate(s) - as you finally receive them after your studies are completed
  • Credentials authorization form; print, sign and date and mail/fax in, or fill one out at our office;
