On-campus Interview Facilities

"It is refreshing to recruit on a campus where both the students and faculty members demonstrate such a positive and energetic attitude. That same attitude continues to add value to our firm when Illinois State University students begin their career with us."

Be Comprehensive in Your Recruiting Efforts

  • Take advantage of as many events and services as you can. Remember that Web-based recruiting does not always replace the need for person-to-person contact.

Connect with Registered Student Organizations

Enhance Your Campus Presence

  • Become an active participator!  Illinois State University's Career Center offers employers a variety of recruiting activities in which they may participate. Career fairs, Web-based recruiting via eRecruiting, and on-campus interviewing are just a few of the services employers can utilize in order to build a strong campus presence among Illinois State University's students.

Host an Information Session

  • Set up a time to come to campus and hold an informational meeting regarding your organization’s opportunities and benefits. Invite students and faculty from targeted academic programs.

Make Connections with Academic Departments

  • Call the department or visit its Web site to obtain a list of faculty members.
  • Investigate upcoming departmental events.
  • Send a letter to departmental chairs/directors informing them of your interest in building a relationship with their department.
  • Offer to serve on department advisory boards.
  • Offer to conduct class presentations or provide a case study.
  • Arrange for students and faculty to tour your organization.
  • Support faculty research.

Offer an Internship

  • Not only is this a wonderful source for obtaining potential full-time employees, it also provides an excellent opportunity for you to promote your organization. Students who participate in internship programs often serve as an employer’s best advocate. The word can spread quickly as interns return to campus and share their experiences with other students.

Remember the Underclassmen

  • By focusing a portion of your recruiting efforts on underclassmen, you are paving a productive recruiting future. It is never too early to get students interested in your organization.

Target Specific Academic Departments from Which You Are Recruiting Candidates

  • Establish a relationship with the faculty of the academic program(s) on which you are focused and explore any career-related activity hosted by the academic department(s).

Utilize Illinois State University Alumni

  • Alumni working at your organization, depending on their year of graduation, are still likely to be familiar with the University. Use alumni to assist you in your recruiting efforts, as they can help in making inroads working with academic departments.
