Student Expectations of Career Center Staff

Thursday, November 5, 2009, 10:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m., Bone Student Center - Brown Ballroom
This event features local, state and national school districts who are seeking qualified candidates for teaching, administrative, and support services positions, as well as related agencies who are seeking to fill non-teaching positions. This is a particularly good event for seniors graduating in December 2009 or May 2010 to attend. However, all education majors (freshmen – seniors, graduate students) and alumni are welcome to attend this fair! Come prepared with a supply of resumes and dress professionally. Some districts will conduct interviews during the event. Reminder that current students should bring their IDs to speed registration at the door. Students and alumni from other universities are welcome to participate in this event.
As an added bonus, a visiting recruiter from the Houston, TX area has agreed to conduct an informal “roundtable” discussion about out-of-state teaching and the incentives districts may offer for candidates considering/desiring relocation. She will also suggest questions candidates should ASK in regards to such incentives, plus certification issues, etc. This will be held in the Brown Ballroom and will commence at 9:15 a.m. All interested students are welcome.
There will be additional opportunities for last-minute resume critiques for Education majors – October 26 and 29, 4 to 5 p.m. both days (185 SSB).

The Illinois State University Professional Sales Institute is proud to host one of the top-rated sales career fairs in the country. Held during the fall semester each year, this special-focus, Sales Career Fair brings over 45 companies interested in hiring sales professionals together with over 200 students interested in sales careers.
The event will provide company representatives an opportunity to interact with students who are interested in pursuing a career in sales, and enjoy light appetizers throughout the event. The combined event will provide the formality of a traditional career fair plus a more informal setting wherein company representatives can socialize with interested candidates.

Monster College Advantage is a FREE dynamic presentation that will help students own their college experience and achieve the best possible result from their time in college – a degree and a great career. The program is delivered by a professional speaker and students will be actively involved in engaging interactive activities. This event is part of the Mid-America Educators' Job Fairs held at a different university each day of this week across Illinois. At this year’s ISU Fair we expect more than 150 districts, charter & private schools, plus some related education agencies to participate. Almost 40 are from out-of-state, including Hawaii (search the list under “Teachers-Teachers.com”) and a school from near London and one in the United Arab Emirates. Please note that school recruiters will be in both the Brown Ballroom and Old Main in the Bone Student Center.
This event is open to all education and related majors, alumni, and students from other universities. Bring plenty of resumes and dress professionally for this Fair -- first impressions do count! Current students should bring their ID cards to help speed registration at the door.
Juniors are encouraged to attend. Take this opportunity to check out the marketplace and job possibilities in advance of your senior year and to talk directly to school recruiters in districts where you may be applying in the future.

Proper etiquette can make or break a deal. This event offers students the hands-on opportunity to dine with members of the corporate world and learn skills that will help participants not only find jobs, but retain them as well!
Tuesday, February 26th, 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., Bone Student Center (Brown Ballroom, Circus and Spotlight Rooms, 1 West Lounge and Old Main) -- 200 districts have registered and that's a Full House!
Part of "Mid-America" fairs each day of this week across Illinois. Over the past three years, the Illinois State event has averaged more than 190 districts (and related agencies) and nearly 1000 candidates. School districts from throughout Illinois and across the U.S. annually visit the Illinois State University campus during the spring and fall semesters to recruit candidates for all careers related to education (through grade 12). Typically up to 30% of the districts are from out-of-state.
As always, this event is open to all education and related majors (remember to bring a current ISU ID to register at the door), alumni, plus students from other universities! As in past years, student teachers should be able to negotiate a partial or full day off in order to attend.

The recruiters certainly understand that students who attend likely are just beginning, or are preparing to begin, their student teaching experience.
Note: some of these districts will return for ISU's fair in late February, some will not. Most of the secondary districts will be in attendance at the Northwest Personnel Administrators' Fair (at College of DuPage and Glenbard So. High School from 9 to 3 on Saturday, February 2), but this event at IWU will probably have one-tenth the number of candidates in comparison to that fair!

Designed especially for junior and senior undergraduates contemplating the pursuit of graduate education, this campus visit provides an opportunity for highly motivated students to learn more about the advantages and resources of pursuing graduate education at The University of Iowa. Students will have an opportunity to network with UI faculty and students to learn more about the outstanding academic and creative research programs here.

This expo will provide a chance for college students and alumnae to meet face-to-face with top notch employers in a variety of fields, as well as begin networking and gaining experience in professional interviewing situations.
Students are also encouraged to register for the early morning breakfast seminar that takes place before the career expo. CEO Tory Johnson will be providing an inspirational speech, and giving career advice for women. The fee is $20 for the seminar, which includes coffee, the speakers, and early entrance to the career fair.

No matter what your major, the reps will talk with anyone who is interested in their district! It is an early opportunity to have one-to-one interviews with these prominent Chicagoland school districts. ISU seniors welcome at this 5th annual event - no pre-registration; bring plenty of resumes and "dress for success". The recruiters certainly understand that students who attend likely are just beginning, or are preparing to begin, their student teaching experience.
Note: some of these districts will return for ISU's fair in late February, some will not. Most of the secondary districts will be in attendance at the Northwest Personnel Administrators' Fair (at College of DuPage and Glenbard So. High School from 9 to 3 on Saturday, February 2), but this event at IWU will probably have one-tenth the number of candidates in comparison to that fair!
