Where should I go for Graduate School?

It all begins with research. Consider the following steps below to help you determine which programs at what schools best fit your needs.

  • Research the schools and the program in which you are interested.
  • Talk to your faculty advisor and other faculty members about programs they recommend.
  • Research professional association listings of approved graduate programs, and any rating/accreditation information for programs (US Newsmagazine provides several of these).
  • Speak with a Career Advisor at the Career Center and visit the Career Resource Library (SSB 185) for a variety of directories.
  • Review the 40+ graduate programs at Illinois State University. Contact the Graduate School Office for more information about programs, admission requirements, assistantships, deadlines, etc.
  • Research Study Abroad Programs if you need information about international programs.
  • Browse some of the thousands of university course catalogs at Milner Library.
  • Visit your schools of interest. Talk to current students and recent graduates about your intended program's strengths and weaknesses. Become familiar with the admission application process and deadlines.
