Health insurance certification and partial reduction of student fees

As a student participating in an internship or cooperative education program, you must work closely with your Professional Practice coordinator to ensure that you have completed the appropriate health/accident insurance forms. In addition, some students qualify for a student fee reduction due to the fact that their Professional Practice opportunity forces them to live away from campus for a semester or more.

Professional Practice Health Insurance Certification

One of the University requirements for participation in Professional Practice is that you must have adequate health/accident insurance coverage in force during the entire period of participation in an internship or co-op experience. Therefore, if the Professional Practice experience begins before, or lasts beyond, one semester, coverage must be purchased for the previous, or following term as well as the term for which you are is registered.

Coverage must be either privately procured or obtained through the Illinois State University's Group Health Insurance Plan. Full-time students are automatically assessed for and included in the student group insurance plan. Part-time students are eligible to purchase student group insurance through the Student Health Insurance Office, SSB 230. Completed Health Certification Forms are maintained in your Professional Practice Coordinator's files for one year.

Partial Student Fee Reduction

The Office of the University Registrar requires that students complete and submit the Off-Campus Fee Reduction Request in order to receive a partial fee reduction for the semester spent off-campus completing an internship requirement. It should be noted that students most often receive a fee reduction for unused fees, not a fee refund. The amount due is first applied to any unpaid balance at Illinois State University. Refund checks are issued only if there is a zero account balance with the University.
